Known for her pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to treating acne, the British-born facialist built a devoted following through her Lower East Side studio, where clients ranging from beauty insiders to celebrities sought her out to get that signature glow. That same expertise became the foundation for Sofie Pavitt Face, a line of thoughtfully formulated products designed to take the guesswork out of caring for acne-prone skin.

Beyond the surface of her success, Sofie’s journey proves how far you can go by simply finding your calling, mastering it, and staying true to it. Read about Sofie Pavitt’s journey in her C&C 100 interview below.

FOR YEARS, SOFIE PAVITT HAS BUILT A REPUTATION AS THE skincare expert NEW YORKERS TRUST

WHEN NOTHING ELSE SEEMED TO WORK.

What is your earliest beauty memory?

I grew up in Newport south wales and I would love to spend my allowance at the local Boots on lip balms, bath bomb oils and nail polish.

When you created your namesake skincare line, what was your original mission? And do you think that mission has been completed based on where the brand is now?

The mission is simple solutions for problematic skin. I want clients to know it's easy to clear your skin at home with the right protocol and can take a little slice of the NYC facial studio home with our skincare.

Did you raise capital to launch your brand—and if so, what surprised you most about the process?

I boot strapped for the first few years then did a raise before our launch at Sephora. No surprises to be honest—was pretty straightforward.

There are more skincare brands out there than ever before. How do you think your line cuts through the noise?

By being authentic in my mission and working in one category narrow and deep, which I know intimately through my daily work as a facialist and skin studio operator.

Where, if at all, do you think the industry is still falling short when it comes to inclusivity?

Particularly in dermatology, melanated skin is not represented in medical journals when it comes to skin conditions in a meaningful way. My client database at the studio in NYC is very diverse and it's important to showcase before and afters in acne clients on different skin tones to show the differences in treatments and protocol care.

As you think about the future of your brand, what is a goal you have that both excites you and scares you?

I don't get scared! I'm excited about building out the team over the next few years.

What is a product (whether from your own line of products or another) that has changed your get-ready routine for the better?

Mandelic clearing serum is the best for anyone looking for smoother, brighter, and clearer looking skin even if you don't have acne! It will make your other products work better for you.

What’s one product that never leaves your purse?

My micellar cleansing pads which are super multi-purpose.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to an aspiring beauty founder? What do they need in order to stand out?

I think it's important to know your message and to stay true to it! Don't get distracted by what everyone else is doing.
